Is it still possible to get a gmail.com account (rather than googlemail.com)?

If your IP address resides in Germany or the United Kingdom, you will automatically be issued a "googlemail.com". This started in July 4th 2005 (for Germany) and October 19th 2005 (for the United Kingdom). If you want a 'gmail.com' account, you will need to use a proxy server with IP address originating in other countries except those mentioned above.
